  • Overview

    This position is responsible to ensure that Tech Data’s hazmat program in the Americas is fully compliant with the relevant Dangerous Goods Regulations including but not limited to IATA, DOT, FAA, IMDG, ICAO, etc. governing the transportation / distribution of Tech Data products.  The Hazmat Program Manager will report to the Director, Hazmat (Global)

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities Required

    • Provide end-to-end cross-functional and cross-geographical program management of the Tech Data’s Hazmat Program in the Americas.
    • Interface/interact with different business owners and stakeholders across the organization to execute effective systemic and operational controls over Tech Data’s Hazmat program.
    • Work with Director Hazmat to determine, implement and maintain effective Hazmat controls for all Tech Data entities and companies in the Americas.
    • Continuously monitor, research  and analyze existing, proposed and new regulations to ensure compliance with all relevant Dangerous Goods regulations
    • Drive the regular audit/self-assessment program to ensure effective internal controls.  Develop a plan to address any findings and execute plan.
    • Provide regional leadership to cross-functional, multi geographical teams.
    • Provide regional leadership to the successful implementation and continued execution of the Tech Data Dangerous Goods Council;   
    • Identify regulatory risks in new products and services; provide guidance for managing / mitigating risk.
    • Full end to end management of Tech Data’s Hazmat Program in the Americas
    • Drive system, operational or business process changes required to ensure global compliance with relevant Hazmat regulations.
    • Ownership of the regional Hazmat training program including the development and oversight of the delivery of all mandatory training; ensure retention of relevant training records.  Work as part of a global team to implement a learning management system to ensure the effective, efficient delivery of required Hazmat training globally.
    • Provide management of shipping documentation formats and templates, and business processes to adhere to the various regulatory requirements
    • Leverage IT systems and databases to support end to end program management
    • Implement reporting program to monitor, track and report progress of addressing compliance gaps, process improvement initiatives and upcoming program changes
    • Work with the relevant Hazmat team and Tech Data Dangerous Goods Council on the practical application of the regulations to Tech Data’s business processes, systems and controls.

    Qualifications, Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities and Working Conditions

    Educational/Previous Experience Recommendations

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 8-10  years supporting transportation compliance or compliance operations;
    • Previous extensive experience with transportation of lithium batteries is mandatory
    • Demonstrated prior success in effective distillation of complex regulations into actionable policies, process and procedure.
    • Extensive experience in understanding domestic, international and global regulations governing the packaging, transport and management of dangerous goods (ICAO, IMDG, IATA, FAA, DOT) mandatory.
    • US Dangerous Goods Certification mandatory
    • Previous experience with Canadian Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and Mexican Regulation for Land Transport of Hazardous Materials, etc
    • Experience with ADR a plus
    • Project management experience as a project lead or core contributor required.
    • Capable and experienced in working independently
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills; effective, proven skills in communicating complicated content upwards

    Additional Experience

    • Spanish language skills a plus.
